I'm a new member and new G37S owner (3 weeks). I went back and forth between getting the auto or manual. I ended up getting the 6MT and so far, I kind of regret it. I feel like I never drove a stick before. My starts are rough, and the upshifting in gears 1-3 is not smooth. It's probably me just not used to a manual after 15 years of not having one. I hate stop signs and traffic lights. I never remember being so frustrated driving a manual before. My previous 3 cars were an 05 Maxima, an 03 Acura TL type S, and an 03 Vette (auto). They were all such a pleasure to drive. This new G37 is too much work and thinking. Does anyone else feel the same or am I just really rusty?

Sounds like you're just rusty. I went with the 5AT and love it, but a 6MT should not be rough and not smooth. I'll give you a few thousand miles until you're not even noticing it and shifting smoothly.

I got the G37S 6MT and it was my first stick car. I had a little trouble with it the first week but got the hand of it quick. Now I love it. The clutch is heavy and stiff so it will take some patience but nice choice on the 6MT your grow to like it

I was worried about that when I was buying my 6MT because I drive far in stop and go traffic to work everyday. So I really considered getting the automatic. But after a short while I got used to it and I love the 6MT. Had I gone with the automatic I would have been very disappointed. The G37S is too cool to have an automatic transmission.

Please, let’s not turn this into another auto versus manual thread, one of the standards that seems to turn up on a regular basis.

As with anything, practice makes a big difference... I'm not saying that you haven't had any... but like others have said, its a new car and you're probably a little rusty... I don't have a g37 but whenever I drove one, I didn't notice any problems, then again maybe it's just me being so damn in love with the car to notice its faults..

I went from an '03 350Z Track Model to my '08 G37S 6spd... the shifter is like butter in the G compared to the Z, and the clutch pedal resistance almost doesn't exit (compared to the 350Z). My wife has an '07 G35S Sedan... its ok, but I'm a bit OCD... so I've got to have the stick shift. =)

The clutch takes a little getting used to it has a short travel before it grabs and the full pedal travel is a little longer than what I've been used to in the past. You just need more practice.
