Ok i already have a basic idea that a 5 spd is way beter then a auto, but seeing that i cant aford a swap right now, i was wondring what , if any, i could do to make my auto trans fast, well i mean if there any perfomance parts for an auto trans to make it shift faster, better, whatever. Im just curious if there is like a shift kit for it to make it shift faster and not lag as bad and to make it just all round better, not better then a five spd just better. anyway if thats confusing i understand, any info would help. thanks alot, take it easy guys.~Jon

What's the thing you unplug ti make it shift quicker? I've heard it works pretty well. I drove my friend's 97 with an auto, at wasn't so bad. . . it's not really much slower, it is by a BIT. . but. hey. . no top speed limiter.

I prefer controlling my own gears, however. .

The first 3 anyways haha......

About the plug thing, it doesnt even really do anything but jerk your car inbetween shifts, not worth the possible damage it might cause imo, so I wouldnt even worry about it. My car was auto and I did try it btw.

The auto-->manual swap doesnt really cost that much, if you have some friends who know how to work on cars get them to help you out and you can get all the parts at a junkyard for probly less than 5 or 600 hundred bucks.Heavy throttle did a write up on it with pics, go to SR20 Install FAQ and then click on Auto Manual transmission swap.

5 speed swap really isn't that hard of a thing to do. There are so many write ups about it and the wiring is really very very simple. I probably wouldnt ever buy an auto 240 unless it were for a daily driver and that's all. You can find cheap 5 spd 240's as well.

"Drag car: auto is the way to go IMHO" rico what do you mean by that?I mean in a manual you can still get a better launch because you can set your rpms and still time your shifts better than with an auto.

my goal is to build a 94 convertible . . .5 speed swap, SR swap, S13 front fascia (OR zenki or kouki S14). . but I'd keep it mostly for cruising. . nothing insane, NO engine mods really. . :wackit:

I think it'd be fun to pimp.

an auto is great for drag because there is less driver error. for the launches get a trannsmisson shop to make u a high stall torque converter. stock stall is 1800rpm so thats what u cna power brake too. get a shop to change it to 4000rpm then u can power brake and launch at that. unless ur goin turbo the auto transmission stock will hold great for u. at 10psi mine jsut felt like it was shifting too soft.

but yea a shop near here quoted me $300 for a high stall torque converter and 2 days. i have 3 torque converters if u would like a spare to do this.
