That may just work for Azrial, but mine is something mechanical, I have a feeling its toast?Maltrice wrote:There is a sensor under the hood, it plugs up to a relay box by the battery, unplug that and you should have no problems, thats what burnt out on mine. Do a five speed swap soon though, the autos are crap. I've got everything I need to do my swap except time.
There are three conection plugs stacked vertical behind the battery. You want to unplug the top one.Azrial wrote:The a/t solenoid connector?
Allright man that's cool I'll wait for the pic. I was looking at the service manual I downloaded from a torrent. It looks like (from the diagram) it is right by the fender well by the battery etc.Maltrice wrote:I will take a pic of where its at on my vert im not sure exactly what it is all I know is it has to do with the shifting and engaging of the transmission. Suppose to be a back up for the back up kinda thing that Nissan thought was a good idea at the time but the are notorious for going out.
I unplugged this harness near the relay/fuse box and it at least got me back in the shop. That day I went home and sourced a 5 speed swap. It was at my house in 4 days...2 days later my 5 speed swap was done. Only takes about 3-4 hours with the right tools and maybe a friend to help. I highly suggest doing this mod. It is a shame that no verts came with a 5 speed factory...that, not having a dome light to turn on and off and no cup holders are the 3 biggest let downs of having a vert...but they all can be fixed .Maltrice wrote:There is a sensor under the hood, it plugs up to a relay box by the battery, unplug that and you should have no problems, thats what burnt out on mine. I'm thinking it's a pump making the noise. I tried unplugging the connector no luck just more of a racket I guess it's time to send it to the shop. Since I don't have the patience to deal with my stepdad if I try to change a transmission in his garage. Since I am broke with the economy in the slump and unemployed. Hoping the new bail out turns things around so I can have money again and afford to get my own place. I guess I'll have to pay someone else to do it thank god for credit cards It doesn't look like it would be hard to swap out but I'd hate to have to listen about how I got the floor all nasty with transmission fluid and I can't work on it in the street because we are supposed to get tornado conditions today............. I'll keep you guys updated on what is going on though. Thanks for all the input and help I appreciate it even if the simple fix didn't work out for me.BiXLL wrote:I can not believe you posted this! During our last cold spell about a week ago I started hearing what I thought was the start of either an alternator or water pump bearing starting to go out. Not loud, but noticeable. Last night coming home from work it got louder so when I got home I popped the hood to find out which it was. The noise was not coming from the front of the motor, but rather from the transmission area! It was late and dark, the transmission was acting fine except for that noise so I decided I would look at it today after work.
Going to work this morning I got about 20 miles from home and I noticed it shifted funny going into third. Another 5 miles and my tach was going higher and I was slowing down, another mile I had no transmission like it was in neutral. I got it off the side of the road and shut it down and checked under hood and found nothing out of the ordinary. I started it back up after a few min and when I put it in drive I felt it engage so I took off for the last 1/2 mile to work. I got into the parking lot and it was dead in the water again. I shut it off for like 15 seconds and when I started it I was able to get it in the parking space. Now it will barely move after sitting all day. What do you guys think, torque converter, pump, or what? What could be causing the bad bearing type noise, I have never heard that from a transmission????
