Can the 90-93 transmissions be bolted/plugged in directly to the 94-96 cars? I'd like the lower 1st & 2nd gear ratios. Seattle's a hilly town...

dude, unless it is a completely rebuilt transmission you want no part of those early Q transmission's. They were very delicate and blew up on most people. I think you can bolt them directly in, but the TCU is different for sure on the 90-93 as they started in 2nd gear. I know there is a goodness in the early Q stuff, but the trannys were not something you want unless someone has rebuilt it from the ground up.

Well, the idea is that I suspect my transmission is on it's way to gearbox heaven, and was looking at prices on Infiniti's remans.

Hope I dont jinx myself BUT I have not been all that nice to my Q since I did my engine swap. I kind of just hounded the crap out of it for the past 80k miles. Honestly It has held up well and still purs like a kitten. The transmission shifts as smooth as the day I got it. But I have never driven a 94-96 to feel the difference in the transmission...

Dude, I drove a 2000 Q45 AE and those things are boring! Sure they are reliable but whats the use if they are no fun. The leather seats are too comfortable, I can't belive I am saying that....

My point is that 90-93 Q's are not bad cars if you know how to work on them. But I think you had a unlucky experince.

It is true that early Qs had suspect trans and many (if not most) were replaced under warranty. I think its pretty well proven that he issue wasn't the transmission but rather the heat exchanger plugging

Anyway for the price of Infiniti reman trans I might also look at a level10 rebuild.

I was no debating the merits of first gen versus 2nd gen, I love my 97' and find the seat far more comfortable then the 92' I drove for 6 months. I also have my car setup so that it ain't boring........but the point of the post is that putting an early Q transmission in is not a great idea, if you have a 94-96 I would only go with those years. I know personally of at least 3 people with those early Q's whose transmission's were replaced under warranty (my dad's was replaced at 75k) and lots of other folks blew them up afterwards.

I agree $1,800 for a seriously reman'ed transmission is VERY cheap, if you sure that this is going to be a good transmission, that is a cheap as you can get. I paid 3k for a Maxima one!!!

Search IOS and OIP by part numbers below - $1,559.25 is going to be hard to beat from Charlotte NC. It depends on your location as freight is a major consideration for both dealer and customer.

3102N-51X65RE - Phase I -- 90-93 and
3102N-51X79RE - Phase II -- 94-96.

Item Number MSRP Core Price Price
3102N51X65RE $2,135.71 $400.00 $1,559.25

REMAN AUTO TRANS a**

That must be the reason for the dual heat exchangers in the 94-96 model radiators. If one became plugged fluid would still flow through the other.

So what are those HUGE numbers I got from IOS website represent? Brand new transmissions? Either the high, or the low number is wrong.....lets hope it is the high number I found!

yes, but something was still wearing very quickly in those original transmissions to create enough debris to clog that single exchanger in a very short amount of time/miles of use.

Yes - the HUGE numbers are for new transmissions. To get pricing on a NISSAN rebuilt unit it takes a direct search by "part number option" from the parts home page. Also, direct links to rebuilt transmission pricing will not return the prices.. So searching from the parts home page makes it work..
