auto transmission cable shifter installation

My transmission shifter cable broke, I ordered a new oem replacement cable and found that is about an inch longer and will not fit. There is no adjustment for it whatsoever. Can this be a design flaw from the factory??, my only two options are: modify the mounting bracket to relocate the cable and get the right operating range or buy a used one. Is not the wrong part, is the same cable for the 4/6 cylinder, and used on 2007—20011, very common part for an altima. The quality of altima parts is a complete joke. Trans cables, engine mounts,etc should outlive the rest of the car and it doesnt happen...
