Auto Trans transplant won't go into forward

Car: Race 1990 240 stock car 1/4 mile oval track

Transplanted auto trans and shifter into 1989 240 and now the shifter physically won't go into forward ie park reverse and neutral OK.... What gives?

Make sure your linkage is lined up properly. Other then that I have no idea.
