Auto trans swap ?'s

My brother and I just purchased a '91 240sx for his 16yr.old son. It has a bad trans and I am wanting to find another one. As far as I know the car is bone stock. Can someone tell me what trans it has, it is an automatic. Also if their are other models or make/models that will swap in with no modification, in other words BOLT-IN.

Any other info on this car in general would be great. This is my first adventure into the import world, hope it was not a mistake

no, it wasnt a mistake, welcome =)the trans is just a plain jane trans, found in any s13 (possibly s14) auto 240sx.they are easy to find almost anywhere, as drifting is becoming popular, and autos are being tossed aside for 5 speeds.

so the trans has to come from another 240sx? what years will fit? Is there an auto transmission from something else that will work? What is an s13, s14? Is there somewhere on the net that I can learn the languge and or definitons?

im sure theres a databank of terms somewherebut s13 is the style of 240sx that you have... it lasted till 94 i do believe.s14 is the next body styles15 is after that. im not clear on the years as the s15's are pretty rare.the ka engine came in a few cars/trucks, but like i said, your best bet will be out of another 240.just go to your local import yard and have them pick one, im sure youll find something there.

s13: chassis code for the 89-94 240sxs14: chassis code for the 95-98 240sxs15: only made in japan, so no need to worry bout it

any auto trans from an s13 will bolt right in, and i am pretty sure that trans was not used in any other car made by nissan or infinity, since the drivetrains and bellhousings would be different (not like ford where you can put any trans into any car...)

however, if your interested, a swap to a 5-speed is actually quite simple.

this is actually for an s14, but the swap for an s13 will be the same (but you use s13 parts of course) except for the ecu, which you do not need for the s13 swap. also the wiring is much, much easier.
