hey everyone, had a few questions about my auto trans, its been acting up and i'm wondering if its a common issue with this car? first off i noticed its been slow in 1st gear off the line after it warms up. it runs great cold, once I've been driving 15 min it barely moves when i floor it off the line. its not slipping, the rpms stay slow and steady, once i hit 3k rpm it takes off. On the highway it downshifts and moves no problem. finally last week i lost reverse in the car, i replaced the trans with a used one and a new reman torque converter. I was hoping it would fix the slow take off in first, it still does that after it warms up, any ideas?? it seems i'm not the only person with this problem and its happening on a new trans and torque converter, is it a bad trans control unit?

Try manually shifting into 1st by dropping the selector all the way back.

Mine does the same thing. The automatic transmission has longer gear ratios than the manual, since it is a 4 speed with overdrive. If it takes off quicker when cold, that is most likely because the Fast Idle Control Device (FICD) is keeping the RPMs at a higher point during the first few minutes of startup.

Mine does the exact same thing. Hell, my TT even slugs off the line.

Its not just sluggish, its dangerous...to the point where i cant take certain roads cause i cant turn left into busy streets or i cant get the acceleration to merge with traffic for the first 3 seconds, i dont understand why every gear is fine and once its past 2k rpm it takes off but from a dead stop it barely moves, floored, half way, or pumping the throttle its all the same..i'm wondering if its a bad TCU but i dont know how to test it...
