Auto-trans question?

My maxima was driving perfectly fine, then the next day I go to drive it and it will shift into first and second gear and then not shift any further. If I floor it after its in second gear it the engine just revs as if its in neutral. Does any one know why this would happen all of a sudden, and if the transmission needs to be rebuilt?

Also the check enging light went on and I read the code and it said gear 2 ratio incorrect.

i almost bought a 94 max a couple of years ago with the same issue. it was a ny max and i think the issue might be the ammount of salt they use in the winter - damage to wires etc. try flushing at a shop with a filter change. might help...might not but worth trying.
