Auto-trans problems

My 93 Sentra has the 1.6 and the 3spd. auto which has 120K miles on both. My car ran fine yesterday but this morning the trans will on pull in 1st or reverse. The fluid was not old or burnt but I changed it anyhow. This did nothing. I'm guessing the the valve body may have become clogged with some dirt but I'm just guessing. Does anyone have any ideas that I may try to correct this. TIA

I am thinking you got more then a simple problem here something in the trans is not functionng properly,either a line pressure solonoid or a valve in the valve body as you mentioned. If I under stood what you said it only goes in first and reverse and does not upshift into any other gear?

You are correct in your assumption on my part. I just bought the car and drove it today. no matter how far you wind it up there is no upshift. I don't know squat about these cars so is there a way that I can rule out either of the above? The trans fluid was full and did not appear to be or smelled burnt. The motor is a 2.4. There is something on the dash that is labeled over drive but I cannot get it to move or push no matter what I do. Is this car supposed to have overdrive?

The car has never showed any signs of slipping. First and reverse pull strong, just won't shift at any rpm. I even tried manual shifting but no go. I guess it's time for a new car.:ylsuper Thanks again for the reply.

tim what kind of car do you have? not a sentra if its a 2.4.

I'm in North Carolina. I know a sure fix would be to change out the trans. but the car is really in poor shape as far looks (paint,interior). I bought the car cheap and I put 40k trouble-free miles on it. I will prob. just part the car out.
