Its an automatic transmission and when its shifting it sometimes slips and travels into higher RPM ranges without the power output. I can no longer give it full throttle because it hits the redline repeatedly as if there is a rev-limiter and will not shift. I am wondering if this is a problem with the torque converter or if anyone has any ideas of what it could be. My fluids are new, I recently flushed the entire trans. fluid. Thanks
Flushing the transmission was your first mistake, sorry to say. A smart mechanic would have warned you.
However, all is not lost. At the risk of getting flamed by folks who have never done this before, I would try adding a bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix. When my '92 Max started slipping between 2nd and 3rd at 160k, I added Lucas and got another 143k on my transmission (that's 303k total miles) before I had to have it rebuilt. I've recommended it to about a dozen other people and they have gotten outstanding results.
first, you have to make room fo the Lucas. Just drain out about a quart of transmission fluid, preferably through the drain hole after you remove the plug with 1/2" socket head -- it fits perfectly inside the plug. Don't do this with a hot engine because you will burn yourself on hot oil! The plug is located towards the bottom of the transmission's side, and is horizontal to the ground...meaning that transmission fluid will come gushing out unless you are very careful and hold onto the plug with your fingers when you get to the last two threads on the plug.
You can also use a hand pump with a narrow hose inserted down into the filler tube to pull out the exact amount you need.
It's best to do it right after the engine reaches operating temperature.
You've got nothing to lose because the Lucas will not harm your transmission, and if it does not help, then the plates and bands inside need to be replaced anyway.
After you do it, come back on and give us an update.
