Auto Trans Problem for '93 240SX

Hi, Im new here to nicoclub and I have a 93 Nissan 240sx convertible.I got it as a present from my dad because i graduated on Friday the 13th... lolz.... how weird is that... Well yeah... I hope some of you peoples can help me with some questions that i have about my car. There is this problem that i have with my car. It sometimes laggs to change from 1st to 2nd gear, and sometimes it wont even change at all... Some guy told me it could be the transmission. I don't really know anything about cars yet so for now I'm stuck. I'm hopefully gonna go to college and major in mechanics. But in the mean time could someone in here help me?.... I'm not to sure what to do. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me....

either the synchros are out or check the solenoid. try flushing your fluid and change the filter if it comes with one.

Lagging between first and second is normal for the automatic transmission. Nissan built the automatic transmission in such a way that shifting from first and second is almost unnoticable.

As mentioned already check the transmission fluid, change the fluid if it smells burnt.

If you decide to change the filter as well, they are fairly inexpensive at your local auto parts store.
