Hey everyone i got a friend who has a turbo ka on an auto transmission. Under cruise his trans shifts perectly, as soon as I WOT the trans starts to slip like crazy. His AFR numbers at at 11.5-12 steadily so i dont think its an engine problem, builds boost fine and all. So then i decided to check his trans fluid level and as soon as a pull the dipstick out Theres a crap ton of pressure and fluid shoots out like a geiser. He has an aftermarket transmission cooler but with no fan on it. Im yet to check the inlet and outlet temps of the cooler with an infared thermometer. Any ideas why this is happeneing? Never really seen this problem before. Any input would be a big help. Thanks

Sounds like a transmission pump failure. Check the pressure of the transmission in all the gear ranges and compare them to the specifications found in the service manual.

Do a drain and refill first and fill the pan completely.

he told me he drained the pan, said probably 2-3 quarts came out. Tried to refill, trans only took 1 quart before over flowing out the fill tube. ill check line pressure tomorrow

so a transmission guy told him the same thing that the pump was going bad. he ended up getting another auto transmission for 50 bucks. Threw it in today and now we can actually fill the transmission without any buildup of pressure at the fill tube. Although still having the same problem, at WOT trans downshifts properly but still slipping like crazy! could it be possible he just got another bad trans? i know their old but to have the same exact issue with slipping kinda boggles my mind. any other inputs anyone, on what else could be going bad?(jus about ready to tell him to spend the money on 5 spd swap and get rid of these headachs)

Stupid question but are you using the correct fluid? I've seen dumber things happen and that could be a common denominator. Was the current used trans in a running vehicle when it was pulled or just sitting somewhere? Are you using the same torque converter?

yea we used dex III. the trans was off a guy from craiglist, he "said" his 240 was wreked and hes parting it out. i jus think its weird for it to have the same exact problem. well still trying to figure it out, i decided to change the dizzy out. he told me his car would intermittantly not start (crank but no start). so i was thinking maybe the crankshaft sensor is going poopey. this is of course over the phone, he told me he had fuel pressure. anyways, since the crank sensor is in the dizzy (S13), i decided to swap it with a known good one. test drove it and BAM! The hesitation was no longer present, but now the car started to break up in WOT, kinda sounded like spark blow out, s*** ton of misfires. under cruise though car drives fantastic. im off to checking spark plug gap, wires and maf wiring and so forth. any other suggestions on what else i should check for this kind of problem? Thanks for all input

Well under boost stock auto trannys will slip.. I used to run an auto on my ka-t, then I went 5 speed. The automatic gets to hot.. I don't how much power your friend is putting down but the 240 auto transmission doesn't like boost.. the best way to get good results from it is to put the overdrive on when driving hard.. it shifts a bit better..
