auto transmission shot

Ok my nissan '90 stanza auto transmission is shot. I cant go past 35 mph or it will just rev like crazy. And reverse is totally gone. Should I Buy a used auto transmission and put it in myself

Take it to a auto transmission shop and let them try to rebuild it

Which one is cheaper/last longer

The transmission is for my gurl so no manual swap in the works yeti am located in dayton(sadly) oh

used, you could get it rebuilt but then it would probably out last the car. Aused one could last the duration of the cars life span. just be sure to buy their warrenty at the trans yard. As soon as you have it in,if it functions properly have a trans flush done. Then see how it functions if it is ok you'll have decent trans in it just keep up the regular maintance. A power flush of the trans will likely reveal any problems the trans has that didnt show up on initial start up. that way if its faulty you can take it back and exchange for another.
