The car is 1978 280z but I'm swapping it with a !982 280zx turbo transmission. I got the driveshaft and everything but problem came up. While I was pulling out the 82's transmission the shaft that holds the torque converter came off completely so it's not in gear anymore? Is there an easy way to fix it? Do I have to get another transmission?

the shaft that holds the torque convertor? you mean the imput shaft? honesly I'm not too familiar with the auto trannies in Z's but in most domestic's the imput shaft is retained only wiht a circlip and slides in or out with little effort, the torque convertor itself should be supported by the hollow shaft coming off of it that engages the oil pump section of the auto trans, the stator inside the convertor engages the imput shaft of the trans, so the pump is pumping whenever the car is running but the imput shaft doesn't engage till the torque convertor spins fast enough to drive the stator turnign the imput shaft

also your driveshaft will likley need to be shortened and you might need to change the diff end of the shaft with the one form the donor as I'm pretty sure the automatic 280z came with an r180 diff
