Auto transmission help needed for a nissan newb

I recently recieve 2 240s as payment for doing a motor swap for a local guy. the 92 240 i got out of the deal is in excellent shape inside and out with 117k miles on the clock. The only issue is the auto transmission will not go into gear. The shifter moves through every gear just fine and the car will roll freely if put in neutral so the trans does come out of park. another member informed me that the shifter was an electronic shifter. The car will not move if the shifter is placed in reverse or any of the drive gears. Im debating just selling the car, but if it is something simple then i will just keep it. does anyone have any ideas for me to check out or possibly know if it is an electrical issue? thanks for the help. I plan to pull it home and post up pics tomorrow.-wes
