I have an opportunity to get a 1991 240SX Hatch in Black that has a good body and runs nicely as well for fairly cheap. Only problem is that it is automatic. When I do an SR20DET swap, how difficult would it be to do a automatic to manual conversion. I am pretty sure I will get a swap to do the swap (not knowing Nissan's and all). What are your thoughts? Any ideas?

Someone told me that its pretty tough, "you have to swap out the firewall b/c the pedals need to bolt up." Damn this is a nice car, but automatic straight up sux. If the AT to MT swap wont cost over $1000 than I'll just tought it out and drive a "***** stick" for 8 months.

Also, are all the interior pieces the same in the AT and MT versions of the 240sx (i am assuming the center console where the shifter will be different, as well as the gauge cluster).

AND WHEN YOU POST, PUT IT ALL TOGETHER. There is no need to post 4 times to say one thing. There is limited bandwith on this site.....and for every question you've posted this far....all you needed to do was USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!!! You haven't asked one question that hasn't been covered a MILLION TIMES.

Well genuis, don't you think clicking on installs would be faster than writing a post, then waiting for someone to respond, and then have to listen to people like me...not talking at all about your question because it has been answered?

Although this is for the S14, it should be pretty much the same.

I thought that on cars like the 240 that were mainly sold as stick shifts the manufactuer just slaps a piece of metal over the holes for the pedal, and the mounting for the m/c. So all you have to do is cut it out and it's done (the fabrication anyways). On my friends Izuzu pickup 2wd it's got a place on the floorboard where it looks like a preffereated<sp> square where the 4wd lever would go.

Oh well, I'm tired as crap, and crap gets pretty tired. So I'm just posting info :)

Yes you will have to drill the firewall not swap firewalls. You can see in the rubber sound deadning lining a semi cut area next (left of course) to the upper portion of the break pedal assembly, go tear that off. Thats where the MC rod goes through and the 2 bolts as well. Also the bolts on clutch pedal assembly go through the firewall and attch to the MC with nuts. So you probably wont need 100% accuracy just a little larger sized drill bit and nicely torque down the bolts.

And no, the connectors are not quite the same. The main harness has 2 connectors to the lower harness (IIRC go take a look in the morning Ill be going autocrossing hehe), and you will need this lower harness. It will plug directly into the sensors into the 5 speed (of corse) and then plug into the main hrness via a different connector. The clutch pedal connectors should have wires prewired as well but I never looked, probably should tommorow for sh**s and giggles.

One of the lines in the auto transmission sub harness goes to the dropping resistor (funky little box right before the drivers strut tower with 2 wires used to control line pressure in the transmission), which a 5spd has no use for.
