I just test drove a 95 240SE with manual trans, ABS and LSD. I have a few questions to ask you guys before I buy it.

* O/D light on dash comes on when you start the engine but goes away. This makes me think it was a auto converted to manual. This dealer bought it this way so he has no clue.

* The check engine light is on. Wonder why? Could it be related to the trans swap maybe? Engine has 112k and looks pretty clean.

* The air bag light is flashing all the time. It appears the bags are there but it doesn't turn off.

* There is a plug underneath the car at the bellhousing that is dangling. Could this be something for the auto trans or maybe the new manual swap that did not get connected?

* The left side of the unibody has been dented upward towards the floorboard. No other witness marks either in front or behind to mimic a scraping . Looks like the car was dropped on something. Not the whole length but the rear portion of the unibody. Could this be a potential problem later?

He is willing to connect the car to a scanner but I just want to be sure and get a second opinion from you guys. what kind of codes are we looking at? Oh yeah, how do you read the codes from the ecu? I'm relatively new to nissans.

Since the clutch is slipping he is willing to replace the clutch, pp, and to bearing as part of the deal. The scan is also part of the deal. What could be the worst case scenerio on a trans swap gone bad?

Other than those items the interior is spotless leather. Very nice. Just the outside is a little rough. This swap thing has me a little nervous since the CEL and airbag light is on.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I'll try to help you the best I can. Hopefully some S14 guys will jump in on this.

1) Relates to question 4. There is a plug that connects to the transmission called the O\D position sensor. This may be causing your issue with the O\D light coming on. This sensor connects to the transmission right in front of the rear mounting bracket. On the S13 we actually have one for 4th and 5th (O\D) gear. Since I do not know how speed limiting works on the S14 I can only assume this was removed so you are not reved limited at 5000 RPM in 5th gear. I removed my OD plug for this purpose. Heheh.

2) Get that code checked. If you looking at ECU codes here is a link to what they mean:http://www.240sx.org/faq/artic...h.htmAlso to check the ECU codes via the dash is located here:http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/ecm_reset.htmI dont have a link for the OBD codes. Sorry.

3) How many times is the air bag light flashing? I can look it up in the service manual and try to narrow it down for you.

4) Addressed in question 1.

5) Do you notice any type of nervousness when driving? Somebody with frame knowledge would be best to answer this for you.

6) See #2.

7) Tried my best to find out about this O\D light. Sorry I came up short.

Ok, I have some feedback from today's events. The dealer had a shop use a scan tool to see what codes were stored in the ECU. Here are the codes.P336- Crankshaft sensor sensorP734- TCC & 4th gear signalP740- TCC solenoid valveP750- Shift soloenoid valve aP755- Shift solenoid valve BP760- Overrunning clutch solenoid valve

It seems like most of the codes are from the trans swap. I'm guessing that if I put in a 5 speed ecu these codes will go away. What do you guys think.

The air bag light flashes about 4 or 5 times then pauses. I really did not count them. I tried the trick with the door jamb button and it didn't work.

I decided not to get this car because of all the problems. I don't mind a little work but this one required a little more than I wanted to deal with.

By total accident I found a 98 SE in pearl white that I bought from an older woman. It's an auto but I for the price she was asking it was a steal.

No dents or scratches just alot of rock chips. Interior is spotless too. No leather but it does have the moonroof.

Now on to the next phase.

Not sure about the 5 speed conversion just yet. I may wait it out for the sr motor swap.

I got it for 5300. It has high miles but I don't intend to drive it alot anyway. Still runs great though. I'm going to get the transmission flushed and the filter replaced just to be sure about the auto trans.

Thanks alot for you guys' help. :ylsuper
