Do you guys think its possible or a good idea to swap a 3.5 nissan altima coupe CVT auto transmission for a 02-05 350z manual transmission since the new alitima coupes have the same engine as the Z's??

It would be cheaper to just buy that 350z

Transmission swaps on these cars are a small fortune. Oh and to answer the question no it won't work. You're switching a FWD platform transmission with a RWD platform transmission.

i used to think that people were just being pessimistic and it couldnt be THAT bad to do a auto to manual swap.... but then i saw my brother's car lol he has a 2000 GT Mustang and people do swaps all day with mustangs. he had to get a transmission, driveshaft, fly wheel, the shifter part (he just got a short throw shifter), messing with the ECU to read that its now a stick instead of auto, wiring harness, and the list goes on. now thats a very simple american car, for our cars its insane to do that swap. oh and for the Mustang GT's they had different transmissions for 1999, 2000, 2001-2004. 3 different transmissions with different wiring harness and different short throw shifters... each one of those years had pretty much the same motor in the same car. so altima coupe transmission and Z transmission are completely different (plus its been said before, one is FWD and one is RWD).

nope. when I took the transmission out of my car there where TWO connections on it. NONE critical for the ECU. one was the Back-up lamp switchand the other is the Park/neutral position switch

this IS EASY STUFF.

it's a matter of money. I really doubt that it's a complex job. someone prove me wrong plz

lol, by all means go ahead.

You will need a new ECU, Transmission, Flywheel. Just off the top of my head, How much you think all 3 will cost?

Don't need to since I already have 6MT.

I didn't read correctly the OP post and I thought he was talking about swap the altima cvt transmission for the 6mt transmission.

because for that I think the only thing you'd need is a 6MT transaxle.

the 350z transmission, now thats a completely different design. rwd with shifter directly on top of the transmission. you would need a TOP of custom fab plus lots of parts. but for CVT altima to 6mt altima that would be MUCH more easier.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time ive seen people asking this question...If your stupid enough to seriously consider doing this then hell go for it. If you wanted a manual transmission you should have bought one when you got the car, at this point tho your SOL. Sell your car and get a stick it'll be much easier and way less expensive. CVT ftl

I was curious about this earlier in the year.I still want to convert it but I pretty much ruled it out.

According to KBB my trade in value is around 14k with 30k miles. A 3.5 6speed is around 16k.I think I would rather sell this car and buy a used 3.5, it would be cheaper than just swapping the transmission.

But I don't want to switch my car, I love it

First off, you can't put a RWD 350Z transmission in a FWD Altima. That out of the way, you'll need almost every harness in the engine bay, and behind the dash because Nissan uses a CAN system. This means what is available originallyisn't easily made to work in another

Take it from someone who just did it, the short answer is no, it's not worth it. Unless you have a lot of time and a ton of extra money.

A swap was done on a coupe by a member on the forum. Search the forums for keywords. I don't recall the name of the member who did the swap off hand. He'd be able to answer your questions.

I'm one of the guys who did it which is why I said it's a bad idea. Basically plan to spend at least 12-15k for parts+labor and that's buying used parts.
