I have a 2003 G35 Coupe and want to switch from an automatic to a manual transmission. Has anyone done this before?, and if so know what parts are needed? and how difficult it it?

I have a donor car that has the motor, and manual transmission in it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This mod will cost around 7k to do it right (a little less if you have all the parts)...generally only those who have tens of thousands of dollars in unique mods will do this one. You're better off selling the AUTO and buying a 6MT...get an 05+

Can anyone tell me what is involved, and how could a motor / transmission swap cost 7000. I have been given a rough quote from a local shop of 2000 and I thought that that was too expensive.

I would steer clear of that shop...they have no idea! It's not just the engine/transmission. The ECU and main harness is completely different and will need to be changed out as well.

Here is a quick list of things that have to be changed:

new engine control harnessclutch ignition switchECU location replacement (fabrication)driveshaft (machined and balanced)Cluth upgrade (good idea)custom fabricated parts (clutch mounts, cutting of body parts to fit the 6 spd)new center arm consul)Relocation of the ebrakeNew 6 spd transmission (not used)Knowing the electrical of the car inside and out (drive by wire system, ecu tuning, timing, ect)Instrument cluster has to be tampered with

I'll try and find the link to someone who has done this. (that's were I came up with the dollar amount, which was $8,700)

I have a complete donor car with motor, transmission, driveshaft, rear end, ecu, wiring, master and slave cylinder, clutch linckage, and so on.

If I supply everything should I still be looking at that much?

Also, I was also looking to put on a twin turbo kit, once the car is complete. Are there any kits that you would recomend?

If yours is still mostly stock...I'd just sell and buy a 6MT. All the cutting and custom fabrication you gotta do is gonna be such a pain in the a$$, you'll probably be sick of the car when all is said and done.

Now if you do both at the same time...that's another story. If you have a 3rd car for a DD so yo can totally tear down the G to the frame.....do all the custom fabrication, swap all the parts over from the parts car, totally build the motor,TT, and transmission then drop it back in....then and only then would I "personally" do it. Otherwise, you never know what kind of shortcuts a shop will do and what kind of corners will be cut.

just my .02 cents.

To each his own IMHO

but in the end.....it is gonna cost you some cash, but if cash is no prob...then have fun! and good luck

...Oh, and welcome to NICO by the way

would you need a 6mt motor to swap in the 6mt transmission? and why would it be so much if you could find an entire motor with the transmission and everything? what woulkd need to be custom fabricated and changed for the swap?
