I'm looking at an 89 auto coupe w/ HUD. I want to do the manual conversion now (since the auto transmission is shot anyway) and then do the SR swap in the fall (hopefully). It looks like I will be able to get transmission for $125 or less.

Questions:

Can I use any manual parts from 89-93? Or what year parts should I look for? Parts in question are:TrannyTranny mounting plate (crossmemember?)Clutch and Brake Pedal (can the Auto one be cut and kept?)Clutch master & SlaveClutch linesDrive shaft

I saw mention in a post about ECU. I don't need to replace the ECU do I? Can I keep the HUD when I do the SR swap?

Thanks for the help.

yes u can keep the hud for the sr swap, it comes on some clips, but sometimes the tach wont read the signal on the 240 gauge cluster so ur gonna have to swap it out. and u will need an ecu, i know that the sr number is 62 for manual and i think that 63 is for auto sr or auto something. but if ur gonna do the swap then just do all this work then, ittll all come in the clip that ud get

Thanks for the reply. Do I need the ECU to just to swap from auto to manual? Can I use and parts from 89-93 or does it have to be from 89-90?

if ur gonna do the sr swap anyway then u should wait to do this manual conversion, but if its gonna be like 23 years til u do the sr, then yea ur gonna need a new ecu, im 99% sure, and u should be ablt to use parts from any s13.

So I only need an new ECU for the SR swap.

I'd like to drive the car while I'm saving for the SR swap.

well if u get the front clip of the sr, which is the best way to go, then the ecu comes with it.

All you need is 89-94 clutch pedals. You can either cut the sides of the brake pedals to make it shorter or swap out a manual brake (I would cut it and get aftermarket pedals...save you lots of time). You also need 89-94 driveshaft because yours is longer. And you need a 89-94 manual cross member because your auto one doesnt bolt up to your new manual transmission. You also need a Clutch master cylinder for a 89-94 manual, and extend the clutch tube to go down to the passenger side. SO again, all you need is:

CLutch pedalBrake pedal (not nesessarily)Drive shaftCross memberlong clutch line for the master cylinder (local hardware shop)and a UNION to joint the clutch line together.

Good luck.

Also, when you do the SR swap, yo uneed to replace the speed sensor because your tach cannot read the JDM speed sensor, because it's in KM current. Either that or replace the cluster, it's your choice.

Great! Thanks for the reply. Thanks for the tip about the brake pedal and the speed sensor. Would I need to replace my SOHC HUD cluster or can I get it to work (RPMs)?

You also need the plate that goes in between the transmission and engine. you also need manual flywheel with the manual flywheel bolts. Make sure if you want back up lights get the whole transmission wiring harness. You also still need a clutch and pressure plate. You don't need to change the ecu. I have done this swap in my car personally. it should take you and a friend a day to do. Nick

I still want to do mine myself Nick, but with my awesome (sarcasm) luck, it will take a week. If Bill is the one that helped you do yours, then no wonder it only took 1 day :pface

I do have the engine...but that engine was an Auto type so you would probably needs a transmission though and all the odds and ends.
