auto to manual conversion for dummies?

is there any source out there where I can find out what I need to do to convert my car to a manual shift? I think I have all the parts, just need to know specifics like are the drive shafts interchangeable? Will I have to remove the whole dash to install the clutch pedal assembly? Are the transmission and engine crossmembers the same?thanks,James
