Now that my manual swap is complete, I threw a code on the way home from the shop. I purchased one of those Innova OBDII scanners and it displayed code P1445. This code is not listed in the FSM but according to Innova site its the EVAP Canister Purge Volume Control Valve. FSM P1444?

Now why would this unit malfunction right after the swap? Everything was working fine before the swap. I poked around to see if they forgot any connections but nothing. How can I fix this problem?

My ecu is from a 97 manual, and all the swap parts are from a 98. All sensors from the transmission are plugged in since they used the manual lower harness.

this could either be a wiring problem or the vent valve itself is stuck closed/open. It is attached to the side of the evap canister near the rear of the car. this valve can easily be checked by removing it from the canister unplug it rig up a connector to jump the 2 terminals in side it. hook one pin to neg and one to positive on your battery. see if the plunger in one of the holes moves when applying voltage and reamoving it. It should make an audible clicking noise as well when it does it.

Yeah, I poked around the evap canister but did not remove anything yet. I'll check that vent valve first thing in the morning. Applying 12vdc should make it open/close. gotcha!

If they wired something wrong can I test the harness end too? with the key on(?) should I get 12vdc on the harness plug end also?

FYI: I reset the code with my scanner and drove kinda hard for about 10 miles and it has yet to come back on. hopefully it doesn't. :pface

that code is typically very intermitten during the initial failure stages. its usually a result of rust building up on the shaft of the valve. if you look into one of the holes with a small flash light you can usually see the rust build up on it.

I checked the vent valve and all is good. I can hear is click when applying voltage. I can see it open and close.

I also checked the canister itself and it seemed fine. I checked the purge solenoid on the engine and it too worked properly per fsm. While I was at it I checked the one way vacuum port and it functioned only one direction. It was tough to blow air thru though. Maybe clogged or something? Other than changing my gas cap I don't know anymore.

P1445 is EVAP Canister Purge Volume Control Valve which is under the intake right? How hard is it to remove this unit? Please tell me I don't have to remove the intake mani.
