Hi ,

I was wondering if anybody here converted there Automatic 240sx to a Manual. Is there a huge differences if you converted over than the one that comes manual? I'm asking this because i am trying to find a 240sx but i do not see many in manual and i found a nice automatic 240. i was just wondering if you convert it, if there is difference characteristics like how they drive and stuff.

Thanks.

If you're going to convert the transmission... throw in a sr20det front clip at the same time... Engine and transmission... est 2000 on ebay

manual should be a bit faster. yeah if you're gonna switch, might as well pull your ka and make it into a mantle piece and drop the sr in there. just as a side note, you'll need the hardline, clutch damper or a line with the loop remover (like the nismo or takamotorsports), the transmission, shifter with all rings and washers, shift boot, shift knob, clutch and brake pedals along with a drill to punch a hole for your clutch pedal. oh don't forget the gear oil and to brake loose the filler and drain plugs so you dont have a hell of a time getting them out when you've already installed the transmission.

don't let it sound daunting man, seriously, it's not too hard. Just finding the pieces might be a pain in the butt. I found a perfectly good driveshaft (no play in any axis), bought a new hard clutch line from dealership, ordered a new stainless steel clutch line from takamotorsports, and picked up a reman kit for the clutch master cylinder that came out of my sr clip. Now it's just a bolt in after I make some cuts into the firewall. It's doable, and you can check out heavythrottle's page on the install for the sr, they briefly talk about the auto to manual conversion. no problemo as my state's new governor would say...*cries*

if u do decide to throw the sr in there dont buy it from ebay. besides being the dumbest reason to get an sr, for an auto to manual swap, ebay is the worst place to get one.

I did my auto to manual swap in about a day with the help of a friend. In the end it cost about 400ish. that also includes all new clutch components and a resurfaced flywheel. Also the swap is harder on the 95-98 models, I have heard. I did it on my 92. I'm keeping the KA too. Nick

you guys can be such idiots!

The guy want to spend a few hundred and get a 5 speed, he didn't mention 1 thing about getting a SR20, whats this big deal with the SR20 now? I'd rather KAT my 240 than SR it. But to each his own. Telling him to just spend another 2500, swap in a sr20 and do it all at once isn't even close to the answer he was looking for.It is possible, but takes some work.

Auto to 5 speed swap

This really helped me out. I'm in the process of buying a swap for my 93 as well, the parts are gonna run me total ~700-800, which bites.

Hope that helped.

I have had no idling problems. Sometimes when I press the gas it idles up to 900-1000rpms and drops in about 2 seconds back to 700 rpms. It does the samething in my friends turbo 240 and it doesn't bother me. I have the neutral saftey switch bypassed and no transmission wiring harness. I have no speed cut. Don't have reverse light, i don't care. Still have speed/rpm sensor hooked up. I have cruise control and all guages work. The biggest problem is getting the auto transmission out and cuting the fire wall so you can fit the master cylinder in. Nick

Here are some pics on where and how to bypass the neutral saftey switch. Just shows I have no transmission wiring harness and only speed sensor hooked up. Bewarned you don't have to push your clutch in anymore to start your car. Nick

Yes, But some people have a problems sometimes when you touch the gas rpms jump up to about 1200rpms for a few seconds. Also if you choose to hook up reverse lights and take the o/d light out. Nick

yea some times ill get that jump to 1200. but hookin up the reverse lights its really easy jsut two wires that have to connect two plugs. the top plug behind the fuse box from the auto transmission harness and the reverse p;ug on the 5spd transmission. connect the green wire from the auto plug to one of the two wires on the reverse 5spd plug. then the black wire on the auto harness to the other wire on the 5spd reverse plug. of the o/d jsut make sure its on when u pull the transmission out. other than everything runs great

Where can you get the NISMO line? I checked courtesy's website but I didn't see it there. Just researching before I decide to jump into the swap myself.

Why not keep the KA? Whats wrong with the KA? While I admit the SR20 is a considerably better engine but the KA still can pack some punch once its rebuilt and turbo. Thats my plan, considering that it is often cheaper, (like 200 for engine/transmission).

I am planning to keep mine KA powered, I just need to convert to manual now. I like the idea of a cast-iron block better than aluminum but it would be nice to have that much power to start with first.

Can you (or anyone) give specifics on this? I searched some and can't find anything very specific on which wire/s to jump/ground/or whatever.

TIA!Sean :)
