It cost me between 5-600, all work done by myself and my dad. Resurfaced flywheel at AAMCO.This is something that is different between areas of the country. My transmission, driveshaft, flywheel, clutch hard line, clutch pedal, rubber clutch line and transmission crossmember came from a junkyard. Clutch kit and master and slave cylinders were new from advanced auto. Just check all the prices for the parts around your area. If the auto has a frame that is flawless I would go with that but otherwise if its all the same get the manual.

Cost me over $1k but that was because I am anal and want **** done right. I also upgraded some stuff instead of getting used oem parts. Obviously the transmission was used but I tried to use new wear and tear parts with the exception of the resurfaced flywheel. I also used a stainless 52" clutchline from Vivid Racing which made bleeding a breeze.

ok I just got mine done, most transmission shops in town said 2,000 for install, which is f-in rediculous, One of my friends brothers said he would do it for 1100, So I did it myself. As far as parts, when you read those auto to 5 speed swap tutorials, they uassually don't include all the parts you need, like the all the interior boots, transmission adapter plate, bolts, gaskets, etc. I would guess if you went to a junkyard and got all the parts, you would realize what you need, but thats not my point. My transmission, flywheel, clutch, driveshaft was $350, but everything else was probabley almost that much. And thats not including tools you may need to buy if you do it yourself. One more thing If you plan on getting someone to rebuild the transmission for you add another 500-1000.

Here is the guide I wrote: http://5speedswap.epijunkie.com/

Are these previous quotes with or without parts?

Amazing. I just read it like 3 times. I think yours is the best write up out there. Still, I wasn't able to visualize some steps, and unfortunately I don't know names of all the parts. One day, I'll do the swap myself and use your write up for sure. Thanks.

One question though. How do you remove top bolt? There's no space there. Someone told me that I have to jack up the front of the engine to tilt and make some room. Is that right?

I found the easiest way was to use:

deep socket < swivel < 8" extension < swivel < 24" extension

lay that on top of the transmission with the socket on the bolt then go inside of the 240 and use the driver through the shifter hole. (It lines up almost dead center)

The rest of the bolts you can get off with:

deep socket < swivel < 24" extension

I got it by undoing the egr fitting on the back of my header, pulling the pipe up just a tad, and worming my arm down there with a 14mm 12 sided wrench, you are going to need to have pretty small arms though, im 5'9 150.

and those estimates where without parts, bs right- for some reason either everyone is trying to rip me off, or they are just all really expensive.

I have more extionsions than anyone knows what to do with; and my swap was done right.. Just loosen your motor mounts or you won't be able to get the manual on, And do not underestimate the weight of the auto. I can throw a manual around but I cannot lift the auto off the ground. My dad had to help me. We took the transmission out of the car at the junk yard and put it in with our upper body streangth alone.. sorry Im drunk so im trying with this here.Just make sure you get every nut and bolt for the swap, thats the good part about getting it our of a junk yard. its so easy if you do it yourself. also I replaced the front and rear seals on the manual before I put it in. I had to order the front gasket for the front cover from Nissan and I put silicone gasket maker on that when I put it back on. yea. So CO and Coors light. good times
