Anyone whos done a swap, and a auto to 5 speed conversion from a KA24DE... were you able to use the Auto throttle cable? If so how? I tried to hook it up and the free length of the cable is too short, the throttle is half open. I wondered if anyone else had run into the same problem. I've heard that everyone uses the stock cable from the 5 speed, is this correct? I'd just like to confirm before I order. Do you use the stock mounting bracket from the SR?

Thanks...Martin.

are you talking about the throttle cable mount on the intake manifold? I thought people that had the 'short' throttle cable just had to run it across the top of the valve cover instead of around back then up across the intake manifold? Just a thought, i started with a 5 spd, so i'm prolly no help.

Auto throttle? Do you mean cruise control?

Hmm... maybe I wasn't clear enough, I'll try again...

The car is a 92 KA24DE with auto trans. It's getting a SR also with auto trans but that shouldn't make a difference. The throttle cable is plenty long enough (way longer than the KA24E I did teh last swap on). However the free length isn't long enough, so when I hook it up the throttle plate in the TB is 1/2 open.

I was wondering if anyone else had run into this problem, maybe someone who started with a auto 240 and did a SR swap and 5 speed swap at the same time.

Also if you did a SR swap into a '92 5 speed did you just use the stock throttle cable, with the SR bracket (the one that holds the cable near the TB). If I know this solution works I'll just order the cable for a 5 speed '92.

Hopefully that is clearer.

Thanks...Martin.

I don't get it. I went to the dealer at lunch and it's the same part number for 5 pseed and auto. I guess I'll have to jamb my head under the dash again, I checked already but there must be something out of place if everyone else is using the stock cable.

Yeah they work I did the auto to manual while doing the SR on my 1995. It worked for me.

What do you mean "think about it" ? Obviously I've thought about it, checkd everything I could think of and posted all the details.

I didn't get an auto SR, mine is a 5 speed. I'm just doing the swap for a friend. Why auto? It was cheap, he had auto already, and he liked the "unique" factor. Doesn't turn my crank, but I don't have to drive it :-)

I am currently having the same problem with my SR swap. I drive a 93 5-speed (although the transmission has nothing to do with the throttle) and when installing the KA cable onto the SR using the SR throttle cable bracket, the butterfly won't close all the way. The bracket looks like it's too far from the TB and it's keeping tension on the pulley.

I compared the two cables (because my SR had a throttle cable that was cut about where it enters the firewall) and the thredded end of the SR cable is about 3/4 inch longer than that of the KA. The funny thing is, I only need about that much extra slack to make it work right.

What I've done so far:I noticed that the SR bracket holds the cable a little farther back than that of the KA (about 3/4"!! Go figure:rolleyes ) so I tried to mount the KA bracket onto the SR intake manifold. No Go. The mounting holes don't line up. After wallowing out the holes on the KA retainer with my trusty DeWalt drill, I got it to mount onto the SR intake manifold. It's still open just a litte bit too much. When I say a little bit, I mean the butterfly is at about 178 degrees when it should be at 180 to be closed. I've already bent and twisted the bracket a bit to get it that far and I really don't think I can get it to do any more than that. The SR bracket remains unharmed.

Any ideas? Are we the only two that have run into this problem??

Cut a section out of the hard covering, then the end of the covering will slide back and give you the room you need. Or make a flat Z-shaped bracket to hold the end closer to the TB wheel.

All S13 DOHC cables are like that, the SOHC ones fit right you just have to run it over the valve cover.

I made a custom bracket for mine.
