so got me my 96 240 base a few months back, and its got a remote opener/starter. the remote locks arent that great, only work when im really close to the car, but i cna start it, sorta, what happens is it tries to start and all, but it never catches, i can start it normally, but not wiht the remote, and no, i dont leave it in gear wehn i try this. any ideas on why this would be happening? fixes?, also, im pretty sure its an aftermarket starter, but not 100% positive, cause i do have an aftermarket alarm. my first idea is to change the remote battery, but i doubt that's gonna do anything

Try this. Take your key and turn the key to on but do not start the car. Your radio and lights should work now. Now push the remote starter. If the car starts and runs fine they wired up the remote starter wrong. Let me know and I might be able to get you the wirring diagrams. I have it for a 93 and it shouldnt be that different for a 96 What scares me is you say you are not leaving the car in gear. If you car is an manual then it should of never had it installed. What is keeping your car in place the emergency break. If that is all you are using you have other problems.

If its an auto then I can help you out.
