1st Period Apprentice. Got all the books up to Journeyman. Aint going to pursue Journeyman though because of the lack of business that backyard mechanics are taking away!

This is nothing new. People have been working on their own cars since cars were invented. Why get pissed at it because you are just now getting certified in the field. Maybe a little research would have helped you earlier. Just a thought.

You know, there's the http://www.whineyhondaboyforums.com if you need to be a baby.

A "technician" cost me about an hour of job time today because he didn't check that my rear alignment numbers were in spec. Had I done it, all the numbers would be dead on AND I would have talked to the customer and told them that their caster was out of spec and the car might need to be taken to a shop to check for chassis alignment. Instead, the car had to be remounted an aligned again.

Another "technician" at the same shop gave me my old car with nearly twice the max camber because he didn't check for eccentric bolts on the front control arms. I had to have him double align that car too.

My first suspension mods on my first car were spurred by the over priced dealer wanting $750 to replace 2 rear struts. I got my entire suspension dropped on Eibachs and replaced the rear struts with higher performance Tokicos for under $500.

Another dealer "technician" told me my clutch and flywheel were toast during an engine replacement and said I need new ones. They wanted $1600 for the job (with discounts). Turned out that my flywheel (installed by the previous owner) had a replaceable friction surface and I could have spent $635 instead of the $1200 for a completely new setup from a different shop.

Did you want me to continue about my "wonderful" experience with "technicians"?

I just had a "technician" at the stealership tell me it would be $185 for my 7500 mile service. But they take $30 off for the free oil change and it will only cost me $155 for essentially an oil change and tire rotation. He said they clean your fuel lines and crankcase. I don't need or want any of that. I will have them do the $30 oil change and have my old reliable mechanic (since when are they techs??) do the tire rotation and warranty inspection for $30.
