Ok there are two schools School of Automotive Machinist http://www.samracing.com, and Universal Technical School http://www.uticorp.com. Quick description of the schools. Samracing will teach me everything about increasing engine performance but nothing else about a car. From there I can get on with a bunch of diffrent employers http://www.samracing.com/docs/employers.htm UTI will teach me everything that I need to know about working on cars to become an ASE mechanic and has courses with major auto makers such as BMW Mercedes and Porshce and so on and I can make mad cash working at dealerships. They also have a Hot Rod program and that will go over a whole bunch of stuff but only in 9 weeks and is bolt on stuff only. Now I dont know what exactly I want to do. I would like to get into the performance industry which samracing could get me into, but yet I would also like to learn how to work on everything on a car. Anyway if you were to go to one of the schools what would end up doing and why? Thanks for your input.

UTI came to my high school last year...I saw a video, and the campuses look impressive at least. They will set you up with experience and can get you working for a dealer...If I dont major in computer science that is where I am going!

wouldn't it be smarter to go to a school that teach you the basic first before getting into performance? i was about to attend uti but didn't want to pay 20g's to attend......i know some dude who's attending there.....he gets to work on cars that cost a 100g's because he's going to work for mercedes......it's a pretty good school...

I cant decide what school or profession I want to go into either. I would love to work on cars for the rest of my life. But my family wants me to go to a University. Any car progams in Universitys?

I looked at the sites for both schools. UTI seems abit more mainstream then sam racing, and it also seems like it'll better prepare you for a career...

I'm at that stage as well, I graduate from high school next year, and I have no idea what I want to do... I'd have no trouble getting into college, but thats not my thing... If I could do anything it'd be a professional driver of some sort, I have no idea how to get started in that career though...

Alot of magazine writers who get to drive cars we wish we could see in person went to college. Along with most people involved with actually making formula cars and stuff like that.

At my college (and at least 180 other universities) there is a Formula SAE program, where you make small formula cars using sportbike motors. Here is the car from 2 years ago at my school:

Ive learned how to use mills, lathes and welders. And above all you get to see how a team works together to produce one of these each year. Every peice is custom made, including the wheel hubs, disk brakes, calipers, frames, differentials etc. The only not-custom part is the steering wheel, tires and motor (and even these are custom made by teams sometimes). Its a great experience.

im getting to the point where i neeed to be looking at schools also. i know i want to have a career with cars but im not sure what type of career with cars yet. i like the idea of going to a school such as UTI and then just have them hook me up with a job when im done and be set. but my parents really want me to go to a college. if i go to college i am interested in engineering, mechanical most likley. i went to purdue university over the summer and checked out their engineering department and it was pretty impressive. choices, choices...

they are colleges.automotive colleges. UTI is a great choice and i would highly recommend it over that samracing place because UTI gives you a knowledge of EVERYTHING about a car, and can be manufacturer specific to what you desire, and will send you into a dealership and set you up for life. My brother goes to NADC(nashville auto diesel college) and he loves it. they got bought out by some other college though and he says its gone downhill since then but its still awesome. you learn way more than if you just went straight into a shop.its about 7 years worth of knowledge and training that you would get at a shop all in about a year. i have 2 friends that are going to uti when they finish their senoir years. they have already gotten letters from Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW....they havent even finished high school yet and theyre getting letters saying that once they finish college, they have a job

I'm at a point in my life where i kinda have to decide, next year i'll be a junior, and i'm taking this wilco automotive class in my school, this takes up 2 out of 4 classes everyday (block schedual) so this gives me no room for other electives, (u gotta take english, geometery etc.) so i guess this is a start towards a car carrer.

BTW: Kelso- this wilco class has the transferable credits to NADC, which your brother is going to, so does your brother enjoy the school? and does he think its a good place?

I will be attending UTI this coming Aug. Signed up months ago since the classes fill so quickly. The midwest rep, Harvey Lamar, came to my buddy's house and did a presentation for him, myself, one other friend that will be going with us, and our parents. Very informative and it looks like a kik *** school. I've talked to some ppl that have attended it and they've commented on it being extremely domestic oriented. .....I would really like to hear more about the school and experiences from ppl that are currently there/graduates if they dont mind sharing.:)
