I bought my J30 used...and am thinking of using Auto-RX to clean out the engine and transmission and then putting GC in as my engine oil. Has anyone else tried this? The people on the bobistheoilguy forums rave about Auto-Rx and GC like its the best thing since sliced bread...

I'm new to automatics, so I'll leave that for others who are expert. But in oil, go with whatever you like best. The boboil guys are the obsessive sort who do full oil analysis sent away to labs, which of course hurts nothing other than the modest cost. Any modern oil with a brand you've heard of, and especially with the proper API service roundrel will be excellent. A "best" oil might make for another thousand miles in the life of an engine. If a specific brand, type or buzz makes your conscience happier, go with it.

those oil analysis are only marginally useful... They only work if you can monitor the OCI at various stages.. So you take a sample at like 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, etc and then see how things change.....

Anyway, dont use auto-RX or anything like that.. USe the right stuff and use BG quick clean for engines.

BG has a line of professional products to be used EXACTLY as directed [why they are called professional products- BECAUSE PROFESSIONALS FOLLOW DIRECTIONS vs owners]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quick Clean for VARNISH

SLUDGE is a different animal which requires MAYO CLINIC LIKE PRECISION and entirely different chemicals and tools. Kind of like CHEMO you have to put the engine on the brink of death and keep it that way until the problem is solved.
