I wonder if it's easy to replace two rear window switches with the front right switch so that all four windows are automatic.

Two rear window switches don't even have light in it. It is inconvenient and cheap looking.

I think the switch is just a switch and the auto part of it is on the mechanism itself in the door.

When I had to reset my auto windows because they would stop 4 inches short, I pressed a button on a component in the door itself. I'm quite sure the rear ones don't have those.

I don't quite understand what you meant. Do you mean it is impossible to make rear windows automatic like the front passenger side window? I'd think it's possible but might not be easy (or worth) to rewire and replace with an "auto" switch. Window motor "listens" to the signal from its switch. Remember the "auto" switch has total four stops and our rear switch have only two stops. The difference is in the switch and hence in the control circuit. I will try to find details in factory schematic.

Also, if you mean 4" short on rear windows (will not go all the way down into the door), that's Nissan/Infiniti safety feature not to let young kids fall out of open windows. I remember My 94 Altima and 96 Maxima have that too. Sorry if you refer to front windows.

I think they don't go down all the way because the wheel well interferes. The child safety is a beneficial side-effect.

Oh yes, I forgot that part. Years back Maxima.org forum also talked about the wheel well that blocks window to go down more. Someone there wanted to mod the rear window...

I suppose I misunderstood you. I thought your question was whether you could make it auto just by replacing the little plastic button switch with one labelled auto...

Actually it was my front windows that would always come up 4 inches short with the auto function.

I followed the directions on a thread to reset the auto function of it and now it works perfectly.
