Here's the setup I'm running currently. RB25DET S2 (which looked to be originally automatic), JGY Customs Light Weight Flywheel and 4 Puck Clutch Kit, mated to a Z32 Transmission with an RB26 bellhousing. I went to press my new pilot bushing into my crank and had a lot of issues. I went out and bought a new one to measure it. The outer diameter of the Pilot Bushing is 0.812" and the inner diameter of the crankshaft is 0.765". I shouldn't running into issues like this, there has to be a difference between the manual and automatic crankshaft outer bushing (the one that the pilot bushing fits into). Has anyone else ran into these issues before? Please help.

Why does there have to be a difference? I know plenty of people who have turned autotragic RB's into 5 speeds with no change of the pilot bearing. I had to change the one in my jeep, but your RB isn't my jeep.

The size of the pilot bushing is way off. I pressed 2 in, they ended up getting squeezed down in size. Sounds odd, but true. I'm not some hack-job ricer either, I'm a technician from a reputable dealership just in case people want to pull the install error card. I was using Z32 pilot bushings for the install. I don't know if a KA one would be different or If i need to replace the outer bushing on the crank. I mic'd the new pilot bushing and the one on the crank, they aren't even close in size.

Hmmm.... Could it be the Z32 pilot bushing is just different? Sorry, I've got no experience with Z32 transmission's on RB's. No hack-job ricer accusations here BTW :)

From what I have read in other threads, people say the Z32 Pilot Bearing is the same. I'm at a loss here. I believe my only options are replace the outer bushing or have the pilot bushing turned down a hair on a lathe.

I had an 4wd automatic rb20, the auto bushing has to be removed completely and the manual bushing put in.

Where can I get a manual bushing from? Does it cross reference to something in America?

I'm pretty sure almost all Nissan pilot bushings from the same generation are the same. So goto the dealership and ask for a 300zx/240sx manual pilot bushing.

And yes, the auto ones are different. They sit proud from the end of the crank by 1-2 mm, are a larger diameter and appear to be made of steel; whereas the manual ones are recessed by 12 mm into the crank and are made of brass.

That makes complete sense now. I was looking at my friend's RB26 the other night and it was recessed. Question is, where can I get one? What do I order it for? Not the pilot bushing, the outer bushing.

Buy my RB25 manual crank?

Sounds like your having other issues or not getting all of the old auto bushing out. Not much we can do here, you'll just have to figure out what works for you. Only thing I can suggest (other then buying my crank) is looking on some skyline fourms and looking up auto-manual conversions.

Buying a crank is the dumbest idea ever when I have a good running engine. Worst case scenario I'd just get a custom pilot bearing made.

There's a collar on a auto crank that isn't there on a manual engine. You need to removed that. Get any nissan manual pilot bearing and install.

I have done this before, I'm not sure why you're getting hung up.

The crank collar is in the front of the crank.

No that is not what I'm talking about. This part is removable and extends out the back of the crank. All Auto RB25s will have this and will need to be removed. Did you remove this?
