what are some good ones that the pros use? I've decided to experiment with auto body painting :P There are some on ebay that are pretty cheap- like 20-40 bucks. I figure it'd be worth it to try painting my own car since people have had good results.

One of my friends did his old jetta. He had painted a couple of front end loaders. He did a pretty good job. If he can do it, anyone can.

I'm interested in this also. Somebody mentioned Sata to me as being one of the best in the industry.

hey thanks for the article. Man those spray guns are REALLY expensive! I wonder how those $30 paint guns perform.

ok i paint cars....sata paint guns are the best....but are like 500 a pop....the 20 and 30 guns will work ok but if you plan on painting your car and a friends car you'll run into problems...the biggest problems you'll have are cleaning the gun and setting the gun right....i suggest get a few fenders from the junk yard because they have curves.card board to get a spray pattern. you'll need something to clean the gun with....at work we use lacker(spelling) thinnner make sure the gun is gravity feed...it used all the paint. practice away....oh and when cleaning the gun hook up to an air hose and put your finger over the tip where paint comes out of and pull the trigger it back flushes the gun and gets everything out.... practice alot and have fun

Clean the gun when you change paints, ie between the primer, base, clear. I painted my motorcycle over the 4th of july, Honda Imola Orange PPG paint, it turned out pretty well, Spray distance was about 8".This was the second time I've painted, so It wasn't perfect, but it turned out pretty well. Its sorta hard (for the newbie) to know how much paint is enough. You need enough that it will flow togeather and not orange peel, too much=runs. Once it starts to look wet you should be good.

Look at an oranges peel, and the texture it has. Do you want the paint looking like this?

Its also called orange peel as a finish on walls.

why is a gravity feed better than the air pressure feed type? I can see that the paint is used up completely, but other than that what else makes it better? Turns out my dad has a pressure fed spray gun in the garage-he never used it

I'm buying one to do my car as well. I'm going to grab one of those 30-50 dollar HVLP guns off ebay. I'll only ever use this gun once since I'm painting my 240sx which is....my beater.

I just started using Devilbiss GTi gravity gun and it is awsome. We sprayed my buddies hatch a few weeks ago with a white base and a electron blue pearl and 3 coats of clear and it is awsome. Just make sure that you have any dents and such removed before you go to paint b/c it will show up. There is an old saying that a paint job is no better than how it was preped. Good luck.:ylsuper
