i removed the auto transmission tonight on my '93 fastback and plan to get the manual transmission in tomorrow and want to get it running soon. I searched thru the forums and saw that a few people had simply used the auto ecu which resulted in only a minor drivability issue of not returning to idle. But, i was able to pick up an ecu w/ the rest of my parts the other day for $20 and was interested in using it. Is there going to be anything lacking for the manual ecu in the manner of sensors or connections? like the clutch inhibitor switch, or neutral switch, etc.? Also, will i be able remove the TCM and related wiring, or does that tie into the body/engine harness and into the ecu? The TCM is located right above the ecu on the passanger side kick panel? That green box above the brake pedal - can that go as well?

Also, what is the box located under the center console behind the shifter? Isn't it a little old to be a BCM? Is it a security system control box?

Thanks for any help

Chris

The manual ECU will work just fine. Yes, you can remove the TCM without any issues, but I believe the TCM lives under the dash. It does on my S14 anyhow. Just leave it there disconnected.

You may have to splice the connectors from the manual transmission wiring harness onto the auto harness at the transmission end of things to get it to plug in to the sensors. Unless you want to completely replace the auto harness with the manual harness you have. That's the harder way of doing it, though.
