my problem is, i was fooled into getting an auto cuz it was cheap, and my brother convinced me it would be easy to switch it to manual.... now he is backing out and saying stuff like "really for turbo cars auto is better" ... so now im stuck on my own, either sell the car or switch it over.

my questions are...

1. does the guide for the auto to manual switch on this site work for first gens too or just the second gens?

2. how much am i looking to spend if i do it myself?

3. if i get a sr20 will a transmission and clutch and stuff be included (pretty much, will everything that i need to perform the switch from auto to manual be included?)

thanks for the help :)

And possibly a 5 Speed ECU. Jury is still out on that.

yo, i see you got a 89, sr20... was it easy to instal? did the powersteering lines or whatever get in the way? where they easy to relocate?

my problem is, i got this 240 for 300$ and it runs, i think im just gonna switch it to manual, put some sr20 compatable upgrades on it, and whne i get the cash get a sr20...

or.. i could fix this one up a lil.. paint it at maeco(hear me out) and sell it for like 3500$.. then i can go find a manual 240(that isnt 89-90 so i dont have to mess with the steering stuff), for under 500$ and then ihave 3000 to spend on a sr20 and mods...

what do you think?

Dont buy a newer 240SX just so the ps will work easily. The Lines that will come with the SR20DET will work just fine in your 1990, you just have to bend them a little without crimping them too much.

You dont need a manual ECU, I run the Auto SR ECU #63. The only difference the two might have is the engine cutoff's, mine is probably a little earlier than a manuals. But I dont really care, its not like I drive 130 everywhere I go.

so will the sr20 clip (or even an engine package from heavy throttle) come with a clutch and manual pedals?

The clip will, doubt the engine will unless you ask for the parts. Its easier to just get them at a junkyard. The actual clutch and manual transmission of the SR will come with the engine, since the KA transmission is not compatible with the SR anyway.

I got P/S lines off of a 91+ 240SX. The swap itself was pretty easy.

And no, JDM P/S lines WILL NOT work. The orientation is wrong. You will be bending them if you want to make them fit.

Also, the KA transmission IS compatible, but you need to swap the bellhousings.

Yes the JDM lines will work, if you bend them that was my point. And yes the KA transmission will work but who the hell wants to swap bellhousings? If you have the SR housing you might as well use the SR transmission.

bcuz,

I think it would work. I myself will do the auto to manual swap while I do the SR swap. I do have all the necessary stuff from junkyard, like clutch cylinders, bleeder valve, pedals, stick shift & bracket, 5 spd plastic radio console, driveshaft.

We are about to swap an S14 to manu from auto and we purchased all the parts from the DEALER for $350! If it is an S13 it should be even cheaper! There's a load of S13's in junkyards now, just go pick one apart.

Picking the parts out at a junkyard will also help you do the swap later on because you will kind of remember where the parts go. If you are the kind of person who is rather forgetful when taking things apart, then bring a digi camera.
