first of all yes!! i searched...

My fiancee just bought a S14 with a partially completed auto to manual swap. the trans is in and the starting/alternator circuits are complete but the 5th, neutral and reverse sensor weren't attached. I hooked up the speed sensor but its an S13 so her speedo is reading double.

I'm currently looking for a manual ECU and correct speed sensor, but none of the stickies seem to mention whether or not i need to keep the transmission control unit attached....

BTW, Would using he auto ecu cause some idle issues and high RPM richness?

Use the s14 speedo sensor, The auto ecu will work just fine and the auto tranni module can be removed but what's the point? .10 lbs weight reduction? Throw your soda out the window.. as for your idle issue that's a different problem. As for high rpm richness what afr's? What mafs? And what is your fuel pressure? There are plenty of people using auto trans ecus with no problems.

The previous user claimed that was happening, but he was using a narrow band. I think the real issue was the compensation for it "running rich" made via an SAFC.

I would rather swap the proper ECU in though and do it by the book. The reason i wanted to remove that because its just kind of hanging under the steering column and doesn't really have a good place to mount anymore. It looks like its usually mounted over to the left but had to be relocated because of the clutch pedal. (this car may be autox'ed later on and i don't want any thing coming loose and getting under the pedals.)

I guess I'm pretty retentive overall, I'm actually considering sourcing an S14 trans or bell housing so i can mount the CAS too lol.

You can just drill the hole for the CAS in the S13 transmission.

Something else is going on with being rich, AT ECU should not be causing that.

yeah Ive been reading up on the SAFC II, i didn't want to mess with it until i sort of knew what i was doing. I think ill borrow the wide-band off of my FC this weekend and see where the AFR's really are. i do wonder why one is on the car since it only has CAI and cat back...

if i put it in where the rear 02 goes it shouldn't affect the fuel map, right? or do i need to hook the stock narrow band wire up to the LC1?

I'm not use to S14 stuff that much. But would think you need both narrow bands for the ECU to read/adjust. And yeah, I would just set the SAFC to do nothing.

yeah she/we are on the fence to sell off the SAFCII, or keep it if she goes KA-T later on. What do you use to tune/manage your KA-t setup?

On my M3, which also happens to be '97 OBDII, the rear 02 is just to make sure the cat is doing its job. Ill setup the LC1 output to simulate it just to be safe tho.

I just have a JWT tuned ECU. Had a SAFC2 that I planned on fine tuning with, but it just died a few weeks ago and I removed it.

Probably not, will just stay as is and change tuning when a built motor comes into play.
