Auto Lock Upon Leaving the Car

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hello everyone!

I am new to the forum with a new EX35. Is there a feature to lock the doors to the car after you exit it? I mean I usually leave the car unlocked, unknowingly. Is there a way that once the key leaves its sensory zone that car locks the doors itself?

Thanks,
laevanay

I'm only aware of locking the doors by hitting the button around the outside handles or hitting the key fob button. So, as far as I know, just walking away will not lock the vehicle.

Ditto on pushing the button.

Before I'm out of the the car my doors are locked.
I push the lock button on the door armrest as soon as the
door is part way open.

Hmm, I may try that. I guess one could theoretically lock the fob inside the EX then...

Doors won't lock with it still in the car.

Locking the car from the inside driver armrest, won't it disable the alarm feature on the vehicle? Doing so on my other vehicle allows me to lock car but disabling the "theft system" and just allows it to manual lock in case you don't want your alarm going off for whatever reason. Maybe it's different with the EX but definitely disables the "arming" feature on my cars if I lock it from the inside and not the FOB/outside door button.

Sadly no. Even worse is thinking how easy it would be to implement it, with just some small software change. All the required software and hardware is already there, as the car can detect the presence and proximity of the key outside of the car, as demonstrated by its welcome light feature. I'm really surprised there isn't an aftermarket reprogram for this for Infiniti's cars, seems like it would be trivial to do.

I agree with you, Marconelly. Just like it won't let you lock the doors if the car senses the key inside it, it should be able to sense the key leaving the car's proximity and lock itself. Doesn't it do that already if the car goes beyond 15 mph anyways?

My CX7 had this feature...and I thought I'd miss it on my EX. But, it's a trade off. Nice to walk away and have the car lock without having to think about it. Buy can't tell you how many times I pulled my car in the garage and, later, needed to grab something out of my car...without my keys... what a pain in the a$$. That said, it would be nice to have the option. On the CX7 the default was "off."
