Auto KADE Pilot bushing removal...

So I have been re-building a KADE that was from an auto 240sx. I am trying to replace the Automatic Pilot bushing, and replacing it with the manual trans Pilot bushing. I have rented the pilot bushing removal tool from Autozone, but it wont pull that sucker out of there.

My question is, does anybody have any tips for pulling the Pilot bushing out of the back of the engine, besides the tool from Autozone?

what is the tool from autozone? i have always just used a slide hammer with a little bit on the end that kinda grabs the edge, takes about 2 or 3 good hits with the slide hammer and its out.
