So I have been re-building a KADE that was from an auto 240sx. I am trying to replace the Automatic Pilot bushing, and replacing it with the manual trans Pilot bushing. I have rented the pilot bushing removal tool from Autozone, but it wont pull that sucker out of there.

My question is, does anybody have any tips for pulling the Pilot bushing out of the back of the engine, besides the tool from Autozone?

Find a wood dowl or brass punch that fits inside the bushing.

pack the bushing with as much grease as you can then insert the dowl and punch it with a hammer and the grease should force the bushing out. That is how I have always done it.

If the bushing is all the way back in the hole the little fingers on the removal tool have nothing to grab onto.

Good luck

BTW this was posted about recently

i just went through this same thing like a month. even posted here about it, lol.

there are many ways to try it. i also rented the puller and it didnt do much for me at first, except brake 3 times. but keep it until your done, it'll come in handy towards the end.

i ended up getting it out by basically cutting it. i got a one handed hacksaw from home depot. its basically a hacksaw blade with a handle on it. I got two slice it the bushing creating about 1/4" apart kinda making a "V". then i hammered on the 1/4" section forcing it towards the center of the bushing. This releases some of the pressure and allowed me to use the puller.

its def. a pain in the ***. it took me prolly 3-4 nights of an hour or so to get it out. it didnt help that my puller tool broke 3 times, lol.

rear main seal puller worked for me as well. just have to lube the crap out of it. just make sure to pull evenly on all sides, and eventually, in 20 minutes time, it comes out. haha.

Took me 5 minutes with a rubber mallet and screw driver. Tap lightly it's only brass. You'll start to cut grooves in it. Eventually it'll chunk a piece out then you can just pry on it, and watch it fall apart.

packing it with grease and using i believe a 5/8 inch bolt is the easiest way to do it. hydraulics for the win

Get a big long bolt and nut.

Weld nut to bearing.

Run bolt into nut until it bottoms out, then keep going.

Works like a puller.
