Currently I'm driving a '95 hardbody, and I'm looking into purchasing a '95 - '96 240. I was curious to know how difficult it would be to buy an auto 240 and then swap out the KA for an SR. Would there be an major hicups moving from the automatic trani to the manual. I've heard that it is highly recomended to replace the bottom end, and some say that's not a big problem. Should I find a manual 240 or would an auto be just fine (considering I'm swapping out the KA)?

My friend also suggested buying the SR first and dropping that into the pickup, and then save for the 240 and switch the motors once I buy the 240. Sound like a good idea?

The auto -> manual swap is cake. The only hiccup I've ran into when doing that swap is with an RB motor. And that's solved pretty easily (just buy the conversion kit mounts or fab up some of your own)

As far as dropping the motor into your truck. Do what you feel is best. To be honest, I wouldn't want to swap that many motors around, but I'm lazy.

Also, there's no need to rebuild the bottom end of an SR. Unless of course it was horribly abused by its previous owner. These motors are junkyard motors, but for the most part, there's no reason to tear it apart when you get it unless you want to have a truely fresh motor when you drop it in. Stock bottom ends have been known to clear 400 HP
