inside the antenna there is a small plastic strip...its a 2mm thick plastic cord, with small bumps that the antenna motor gear uses to push/pull the antenna up/down, over time and with abuse this plastic cord has a tendancy to break.
Removing the antenna to check it out is easy....the top of the antenna base has 2 small holes in it, with an old set of needle nose plires (or what ever else you can stick down in them) unscrew it and you should be able to pull the base off. With the base off you should be able to pull out the antenna, if you cant turn on the radio and let it push the antenna out.
inspect the end of the plastic strip and you should be able to see wether or not it broke, you can also extend the antenna and look at how much lenth there is for the motor to grab if your not sure.
If the cord is broken there is now a small piece of it inside the motor that will prevent the new antenna from going all the way down. You need to pull the antenna motor out through the hole the jack is kept in(its a tight fit and kinda a pita to get out but it will come)open the case with the single small nut on the side, remove the piece of the old antenna and re-assemble.
There is a hose that needs to be reconected to the motor to allow rain water to drain out, If you dont reinstall this rainwater will drain into your rear quarter pannel so make sure you dont skip this step...
Im sure I didnt make compleat sense through out that whole post so if you got anymore questions ask, but its all pretty simple once you start yanking things appart....
