Hi. My auto headlights seem to work fine, but I'd like for them to go on earlier at dusk. I've adjusted the auto headlight sensitivity, but honestly I'm not sure what that does. Does more sensitivity mean they go on sooner?

In general, none of the settings make the lights go on sooner. Is there any way to adjust the sensitivity so the headlights come on at dusk instead of when it gets too dark?

Thanks for the info.

Im with you, my lights dont come on early enough in the evening.

I did a little research with the auto headlight sensitivity and I concluded that the setting adjusts how quickly the lights come on, once low light has been detected. It doesnt change what "low light" means. It changes how many seconds after "low light" is found, that the lights come on.

For example, if youve got them set to very high sensitivity and you drive under a bridge, the lights might come on immediately. Whereas if you had the sensitivity set low and you drove under a bridge, the lights might wait a few seconds before cominging on, then realize you came out from under the bridge, and refrain from turning on.

You can try this if you have a garage too. Set them to low setting, drive into the grarage and see how long it takes the lights to come on. Do the same with the setting on high. They come on immediately.

It sucks. In our Lexus one of the personalized settings is to adjust exactly this; how dark should it be before the lights come on.

There is a setting under 'Comfort & Convenience'. The 2nd option is 'Headlights Sensitivity'. Have you tried adjusting it either higher or lower? My lights come on almost instantly driving under an overpass and thats just a second or 2, and it's more like dusk than dark.

You might have a sensor issue. I hope this helps.

Based on some of the comments here, it sounds like the sensor is ok. it may just be the way it is with these cars. I'm wondering if anyone has experimented with placing a filter on the sensor to make the lights come on sooner at dusk. Any ideas? Has anyone brought thier car into the dealer to have this checked?

My M45 is going to the dealer Monday for service an i want to mention the auto headlight sensitivity to them. If I find out anything I'll post back. I've never been happy with how dark it needs to be before it turns on. It really does a bad job during an overcast day while raining. Any normal person would turn on their lights but the "auto" feature never does.

I asked the dealer today and they said there isn't an adjustment to the headlight sensitivity
