So I got a 1989 Nissan 240sx recently. I'm familiar with this type of car but my harness caught on fire. It has to do with my stater I'm guessing but I'm not sure. My alternator fuse and ignition fuse were the only ones that blew out. Any ideas?

Anyways back to my question I got a entire auto harness of another car I'm wondering will it work plug and play? I checked the white box pins and they don't match up. Any ideas if it's possible? I was thinking de-pinning and re-pinning them where they go but I'm not 100% sure if that will work either. Any help or info is helpful thanks.

Oh my bad, it's the main harness, I think they call it the upper harness. It goes from the white box and all the fuse/relay boxes.

Ok Ive had a 89 hatch and now a 93 and I still have no clue what white box your talking about! But other then that the harness might have little differences. If its not the main engine harness i dont think there are any differences. But hopefully someone, more experienced can chime in!:)

If you look next to your fuse box under the dash there is a white box with a bolt. That hooks up to the harness that runs through the driver fender, bumper lights, headlights, fuse box, relay box, in front of radiator, all around to where the ecu is since there is two other connections there. Made it more clear?

Yes that does lol! I don't think thats gonna make a difference! The body still consists the same lights and everything else, plus the harnesses come with extra connectors just in case your car is a SE! The only harness i think that differs is the engine and trans harnesses!

The male part of the harness are both different. Some pins are there and some aren't.

They are both 1989 fastback base model. It's just ones 5-speed and the other automatic.

The plug you are talking about is call the ”smj” super multi junction. Look in the fsm for the wiring pinout. Compare the auto to manual pins and that will give you you're answer. Im pretty sure you can just plug it in, and any extra wires will just go to nothing if the vehicle is not equipped with such wire.

You can use an auto ECU and harness with a 5 speed

The differences on an upper harness are minimal at best if they aren't the same. If you have a 5 speed lower you should be fine at plug and play. I think you might have to route a couple wires straight to the ecu as if you were doing a 5 speed swap. Check out the 5 speed swap thread for s13 sohc and just pretend you only have to reuse the upper.
