hey guys, ive searched and got answers but im still confused with this. I have a 93 hatch with a 5 speed and was wondering if swapping an auto ECU actually gets rid of the speed limiter or not....there seems to be mixed answers. if it does, from what year 240 will i need it from? Thanks in advance!

didnt work for me. you'll need to cut the speed sensor and 4th/5th gear position sensor inputs into your ECU to achieve your goal.

There are about 123789435798 threads showing S13 ECU pinouts.

Go into the KA-T section in the top thread and there is a link to the pinout diagram you need. Just look up and cut the 4th and 5th gear wires and the speedo (there's only 1 of each going into the ECU.)

jeez lazy people.

Yes. Why you would want to completely remove the rev limiter is beyond me though.

well the rev limiter i could care less about....id prob make it cut a little lower than stock if anything but i was just curious as if it could be done or not.....so any tuning shop could indeed get rid of the speed limiter in 4th/5th gear at 118 mph? (or w/e it is) Thanks again...

yes thats what ive read which is y i dont wanna do that and im seeing if the stock ecu can be tuned to get rid of the speed limiter....so again, any performance shop could most likely do this? or no....

No. The speedo goes from the sending unit to the gauge cluster THEN to the ECU. You're severing the link between the gauge cluster and the ECU. The 4th and 5th gear position sensors are just that; gear position sensors. THE ecu knows when you are in 4th and 5th and cuts out at a given RPM. The only other way around that is to cut the tach signal and we both know better than that.... I hope? Trust me on this, I am currently running like this and it works fine.

Not just any shop can do it. I would encourage you to do some more reading; there are only a hand ful of shops that will tune the ECM. Otherwise you'll need to get a daughterboard.

$400-600 to get rid of the governer or a couple of mins and some wire snipping for free? your call.

(edited out cranky response)

if you cut pin 32 on the ecu(yellow/green), it should take out the speed limiter, also the auto ecu takes that out too(tested, works), ecu has to be from 91-94(i used a 92 on my 93), but the auto ecu wont let you clutch start the car(push start), and when you get out of gear, it'll stay @ ~1500rpm for couple secs till it goes back to 700 rpm idle.

theone.....do u mean with auto ecu that u have to push start it or that u cant push start it with the auto ecu haha....just sounded a little weird....im gonna try to snip the yellow/green wire in the ecu and see if that works but if not i guess ill try an auo ecu

Either I got lied to about it being an auto ECU or only certain years work. Please be more specific as to support your claim because there is alot of BS getting tossed around about this topic.

Even better, if you have the serial # from the ECU to post up that would be the most beneficial.

i got mine out of a 92 convertible(which are all auto's), worked fine.

also yes i believe pin 32 is only for 91-94, don't know for the sohc as i've neva had a single cammer.

if ya didn't understand it, the auto ecu will not let the car clutch start.

Damn, a 92 vert? That must be the rarest 240 ever made and your sitting here tearing parts off of it.

i thought verts were only released in 93 and 94? i know mine says 94 on the title but was made in 9/93 according to the door panel sticker. i figured theres 93's that were made in 92 like that and thats what people were talking about.
