2008 should be close to 2007 in function and I don't believe we have this feature.

KPTechnologies. They also make a ton of other small gizmos to do certain things.

If you are going to have a car for a long time I wouldn't install that. The heavy reps on a door lock actuator will cause them to fail and they aren't cheap to fix. I wish there was an option to shut this feature off in the 2009 M.

I can't work out what you meant by 'heavy reps'. Automatic or manual, there are no more reps than normal. You unlock, get in, and lock. There would be one extra 'unlock' with the auto feature when you put the gear box into park, but that's certainly not a cause for alarm or worry. It's not as if the auto-lock is going to repeat itself over and over.

I'm not driving around in bad neighborhoods. I can honestly say I would rarely lock the door while I am driving. I'm not worried about being carjacked or accidentally opening my door and falling out. I never understood this feature. Why do they have it?

Hi, Guys.
I have a lovely 2007 M35 in Taiwan without original auto lock function, but using an aftermarkt parts that use connected with OBD II. The door will be auto locked by speed sensor (10mph), and unlock when ignition is off automatically.

I just attached the link what I purchased from JP website as your reference.

One word: Kids. Although, even at 40mph it takes me, a full grown man, a decent amount of 'oomph' to open a car door. No child would be able to force a door open with that amount of air going over it.

If you have little one's, flip the child safety switch on the inside of door jam.
I personally don't like auto locks. If I'm in a bad area it's not hard to hit the lock button and in the event of a terrible wreck were I may be unconscious, I want someone to be able to get to me quicker.
Extreme, I know but.....

I've been debating getting this since I bought the car, but cant make up my mind. The notion that you will simply remember to lock your door in a bad area is rediculous to say the least unless you are real paranoid that everywhere is bad if it isn't white picket fences. Practice becomes habit, and if you regularly leave your door unlocked, you are not going to remember to lock the door when you really should. Example, I role through hoods often enough where I don't worry about anything...places people from suburbs would lock their doors immediately, and I'm so used to every hood looking the same that I forget to lock the doors where I really should. The other day someone straight opened someones car door at a stoplight in the middle of Manhattan and jacked them, so it really has nothing to do with "bad" neighborhood...and NJ, forget about it.. My girl even had her door opened by someone by accident at a light. And the child safety lock has nothing to do with someone in a good or bad neighborhood opening it from outside. If it makes you feel safe, or cool factor, get it and enjoy it.

This is why i mentioned child safety locks....
Ultimately, to each his own. I have auto locks on my work veh and don't care for them @ all...
