I just found a beautiful 1995 240sx SE for $4100 right down the street. Of course, it is auto and not manual. I definately want a manual car, but this seems like a great deal if I can just swap it over. I read through a lot of old threads on this, so I have a good idea of what I need to do for the swap (I might just get it done professionally).

My question is, are there any problems that will arise from this swap that make it not worth buying this much more inexpensive car? I also really like this car... (I'll end up spending at least $5k on my car if I don't get this one most likely)

Also, as far as costs are concerned, how much am I looking at if I do it myself or professionally?

I tried searching and didn't really find exact answers to these queations, but if I missed a thread for some reason feel free to point it out and make me look like an *** :D

I would say it is worth it. A auto to manual swap from dauntless is 700-800 bucks with parts and labor. If you did it yourself it would cost like 300 bucks for all the junkyard parts.

I would take it If I were you, because then your engine will be in good condition. If your getting an SR then why get an engine with a motor in the first place...

if your sticking with the KA the engine in the car now then the swap will be about $700 for parts. if done professionally labor might be around $500-600 figuring around 10+ hours of work. i'd say go for it i love my 240 and its great having a car that not everyone has and performs great. BTW mine is still auto and is still quick for what it is.

138k miles on the engine... kinda a lot.

I am also going to stick with the KA. No plans for swap... yet

I think I am going to give the guy a buzz and see if there's anything wrong with it. If not, then we'll see what happens :)

I'm doing something very similar pretty soon. Buying a 95 auto and chaning it to manual. I'm getting it for $1200 because the motor doesn't work either (some sort of timing chain issue, I'll probably just put in a new longblock).

Good deal? I think so ;)105k on the odo.. perfect body.

Longblock is a complete motor but usually with nothing else (transmission, IM, TB, etc).Shortblock is JUST the "block" part, no head.
