Looking for info on vin number identification for JDM sr20det's. I'd like to know how to designate that it did come from a jdm s13/s14 and that it is a sr20det to be sure. Also, any resources for tracking these vins to find donor car info if possible. Also, what are the common leak spots on a sr engine (eg. turbo manifold, head bolts.. blah blah)? Anything to watch out for to indicate a sloppy swap?

I did a search and wasn't able to find anything, but I am new to the site so I might have missed it.

I am looking at a s13 with a jdm sr20det and it's transmission. It's got a bit of work done to it (exhaust, front end suspension) from what I know, and obviously this swap. I have been told $3500. I trust the source that says the car is a legitimate swap and that it is in good running condition, though is set up for non-daily driving duties (it is still street legal.. minus the front fender).

I'll post pictures when I go see it.

No one can help me out?

All I need to know, is there a special designation in the VIN that identifies an engine as being JDM and not a american sr20DE boosted?

Also, is there any way to verify the donor car of a swaped JDM engine?

well the only sr20 i know of in america is the one out of the sentra, and you cant put fwd nissan into a rwd nissan. alotta things will be in the wrong places.check shaftplay and compression before you install it, thats about all you can do. if its good change the belts(timing also to save you some trouble) water pump, check for broken parts and replace them while its out of the car.good luck.btw go with a reputable sponsor and you should be good to go.

I dont know about the VIN numbers, but no 240sx in the US ever came with a SR20. We were granted the KA24E or DE.

Do a search on here for pics of someone's setup of an SR20 ( red or blacktop ) and a KA-T setup. Take them with you to look at the car and you will be able to tell.

Or post a pic up here and we can tell you.
