So back in the day, I got a run of screws for my adapter plates done by this guy. He apparently had 350 made, but didnt send me a complete set because he was going to wait for my end of the deal. Before I had a chance to make the plates, he went into the military and became incommunicado..

He said he had a local friend make the screws for my adapter plates..

I am wondering if anyone knew this guy, and maybe had an idea on who made these screws...

Rightyo, ready for a story?

No military, that was just some rumour that got started up by one of the Aussies.

He was running a group buy for some Beet widebody kits over here. Ended up running into financial difficulty with his business and fleeced about $20k off fellow club members. He hasn't been back since, that was a bit before me and Anton got the plates off you last year.

No one has heard of him since, but there are legal precedings happening trying to recover the lost money.

So I think it might be hard to get some bolts off him...

Surely there is somewhere over there that could make some M14 countersunk bolts?

M14 Countersunk screws:

It doesn't state the thread pitch, but I'm going to bet they're 2.0 and not the 1.5 you need, but it might be worth a shot.

I was mainly trying to figure out who did the screws originally... Oh well.

Thanks for the link Steve. The main deal is if I can get some blanks with the right shaft diameter, I can cut the threads myself on a CNC lathe, its just the tooling to buy everything will be too cost prohibitive.

My buddy has a CNC lathe to do it, but he woudl have to buy the special thread cutters, and a new broach to cut the hex head, as none of the stuff they have there is metric, but spinning threads on some blanks would be cake...

If that's the case, buy the longer bolts, like 60 or 70mm, since only 30ish mm is threaded. Cut the existing threaded portion off, and thread the remaining portion with the correct thread pitch that you need.

Just take caution if you take this approach. The root diameter of some machined bolts is actually smaller than the major diameter of the desired thread. Meaning that there may not be enough material there to cut while leaving a pull depth thread.

Basically, if you want to try this, order a minimum quantity first or call them asking for a sample before commiting a large amount of resources at it.
