Basically like the title says. I orderred pretty much all new audio for my 01 qx4.

Heres what I got:

cd playerhttp://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAP...h=008

4 speakers and speaker amphttp://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAP...h=017

I also bought 2 12's and a big amp for those but I can do that portion of the install no problem as it doesnt really interfere with anything else

What I dont really understand. Is how Im going to remove the OEM QX4 stuff and replace it with my new stuff. Like the 6 disc changer, aparently I might have a factory amp somewhere, tweeters in the dash

I know if I was just changing the headunit I could simply just throw the speakers in the oem locations with the oem hookups right? But since Im adding an amp I think I have to run a lot more wiring.

Looking for any help I can get. Ive got a lot of questions.

My 99 has a slightly different dash face than your 99... but on mine, the plastic surrounding the radio is held with 2 screws at the bottom and then the rest is just clips and you pull it off carefully. Then you have access to the screws at the sides of the stock Bose headunit, 2 screws on each side. As far as wiring, I used the stock wires, but I bypassed the Bose amp which is in the rear drivers side quarter panel area. It's behind the plastic, where there is a grille. You don't want to use that Bose amp.

Good luck on the install. Oh yeah, the tweeters were easy, the plastic "A pillar" comes off (pull off the door gasket first) and I fit some JBL tweeters in there, I just had to bend out the grilles slightly! It's a tight fit, the Bose tweeters are tiny!

Ya wiring up the cd player to me is not problem. What I dont get is how exactly you bypass a factory amp or what wiring is going to it and what needs to be done with it exactly.

I havent decided if I simply wanna run the 4 6.5's I bought off of the headunit, or If Im going to wire them to my 4 channel amp ive got. That would be much more wiring I guess

Or if I ran them off the headunit. I guess I could keep the factory amp in there? Do I even have an amp? I might not have the upgraded speakers in my car.... but I do have tweeters..........

this is up to you but, you can take out all your bose components and such and sell it all on ebay. in my opinion, i would wire your new speakers to the 4 ch. amp. with a set of components in the front. or you can do what fueler said and bypass the bose amp. both good choices. are you going to run subs?

I just did mine last weekend. You should def. consider a component set up front. It'll be well worth it when everythings done. The pathfinders a pretty easy vehicle to rewire a system on. Theres a spot to run just about everything perfectly. The only real pain was wiring through the door but thats really the case with any car. Use some smaller speaker wires in the doors to make life a little easier.

Also just remember your system basics, run power down one side and speaker/rca cables down the other side and keep your wire in gromets and not touching metal edges.

If your using decent speakers, chances are you'll have to grind down a little of the plastic housing where the bose speakers were to make clearance for the bigger basket on the aftermarket ones.

So far my set up is a kenwood x891 headunit, eclipse xa5000 5 channel, kenwood excelon components up front and a JL 12w6v2 in the rear. No rear speakers in the doors. Do some research when picking components if you go that route, you want somthing with a silk tweeter for sure. These kenwoods are really harsh and when mounted up high towards the window and hard plastic areas it makes it even worse. Im replacing mine with a CDT set very soon.

Good luck with it all, do your homework and it'll sound awesome.
