what type of speakers are people using. for some reason I keep blowing speakers and I am wondering if the stock amp is pushing the speakers passed their rms wattage handling. anyway if anyone could offer assitance to what types of speakers your using or how to bypass the stock amps I would appreciate it.thanks

im runing infinty. and im amping them with a us scoustics amp. y dont u just get a new headunit and run the speaker wire yourself. thats what i did. Ive had them about 6 months and they work great. im also runnign a infinity sub with a JBL amp and thats working great too.

Tip - when the music starts to get distorted, turn the music down

thanks for the tip, haha.the distortion wasnt noticeable because of the subs. and I had planned on running new wire and trying to bypass the factory amps.

The amp is what kills your speakers. Basicaly the sound wave is a sin wave. The amp just kind of boosts it. So just imagine a sin wave going up to 1, now with the amp, it goes up to 4. This makes it louder. However, say now you crankthe volume andt he sin curve goes up to 8, but your amp can't handle that. So anything above 4 gets cut off. That cut off is distortion. It basicaly slams the speaker to the max distance it can go and holds it there. That's what blows your speakers. Your speaker kills itself trying to reproduce the static.

All in all, you can never have too big of an amp.

There's an audio forum here that has a thread on how to bypass the factory amps.

What speakers are you blowing? I don' t know what you're running, but maybe they're just not getting enough power or not getting a clean signal? Just a thought.

i have blown a set of polk audio 4x6's all four, a set of audiobahn 4x6 in the rear and a 4 inch plate in the front and I have also blown a set of audiobahn 4" in the front and 5 1/4 in the rear, I made a custom panel to house the 5 1/4. but yeah I have blown about 10 - 12 speakers. I have no idea what the problem is. what had first thought is with the stock amps pushing what ever they push plus the 52 watts from the deck its just too much power for the peakers but the last set of audiobahn had 80 watts rms and 160 peak, there is no way that i pushed more that 160 watts from a deck and stock amps......

Umm, its a bad idea to double amp a speaker. If your new HU has a built in amp, you shouldnt use the factory amps.

I am not going to harp on the fact that this is in the wrong forum subgroup, but Like "I wannaS15" said you may be running high level input to a low level designed input on the factory amp. This mistake can greatly increase level of distortion and clipping which is ruining your speakers. The truth is more speakers are damaged by underpowering them rather than having too much power. The reason is that amps that have much more headroom than the lower powered amps require a lower level of gain setting that is required for a particular volume will have much more clean and loud output from the speaker. Hope you can resolve your issue and we'll try to help, just post this in the car audio, entertainment, and security section so we'll see it sooner.
